A high access, rapid sign installation in a highly flammable environment

ASDA is one of the UK’s leading supermarket chains and, like many supermarkets, also has a significant estate of petrol stations with associated forecourt shops.

Working in partnership with Gleneagles Project Services, our challenge was to produce a rapid turnaround across multiple petrol station locations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, with each one taking no more than 24 hours to complete.

Acquired from the previous incumbents the Co-op, each installation would see a transformation to ASDA’s distinctive green, to both the station canopy and the accompanying forecourt store.

Challenge

This particular run of installations occurred during the autumn which meant that, in addition to working at high access on each petrol canopy, we had to contend with short daylight hours, dark evenings and inclement weather - typically high winds and heavy rain.

Petrol stations are, by their very nature, essential service points for motorists - so operational downtime needed to be kept to an absolute minimum. Also, given the highly flammable nature of fuel, they represent significant risks in terms of health and safety - which meant we had to restrict public access. This is easier said than done when members of the public try to gain access to an ATM or the Express Shop for essential items.
